SYNOPSIS
A Legacy That Endures
Colquepata, a corner of Paucartambo in Cusco, unfolds among mountains, pathways and the serene Checopia Cascay lagoon — where daily life is interwoven with centuries-old celebrations like the Virgen del Carmen.
The project follows Tomás and Santusa: he learned to embroider as a young man; she is a master of the backstrap loom. In their workshop, through hands that remember and renew, they weave more than twenty years of stories, ancestral knowledge and economic survival.
Through images of landscape, thread and festivity, SONQO explores how textile practice sustains community identity — told across multiple formats that bring these stories to new audiences worldwide.
